Hiring a concrete contractor feels like a gamble

  • The price you agreed on keeps growing once the forms are up and the truck is booked.
  • The crew that called back fast before you signed stops answering once the job gets going.
  • Somebody rakes the dirt flat, pours in the midday heat, and a year later the slab cracks and sinks.

You get a written estimate, me on the job, and the prep done before the pour.

Concrete that holds up starts with prep

A driveway you pull onto without a bump, a patio that drains instead of pooling, steps that stay put. That's what finished concrete should give you, and it comes from what we do before any concrete moves.

  • Ground dug out and packed. We dig out the soft dirt and pack a firm subgrade, the layer your slab sits on, so it doesn't settle later.
  • Water sent the right way. Before the forms go in, I check where the water runs so your slab sheds it away from the house, not toward it.
  • Forms checked before the truck. Once the truck shows up you can't send the order back, so the forms and the plan get checked before anything pours.

Building in White Plains and around it

We're based in White Plains and work across Westchester, from Yonkers to the cities around us, and over the line into Stamford, CT. Most calls come from homeowners, and a fair number from neighbors who saw our work down the block.

If you're curious how a restaurant cook ended up pouring driveways, it's all on our about page.

  • Permits come from the city

The city's Building Department issues building permits, and the city notes that not all work needs one. We check what your job needs and tell you which office we'll deal with.

  • Driveways and sidewalks out front

Before widening a driveway or fixing the sidewalk, the city wants its public works code enforcement office contacted. You're responsible for the strip between the curb and your property line, sidewalk included.

  • Bigger jobs may need drawings

The city guide says structural work, or alterations costing over $20,000, need drawings signed and sealed by a state-registered architect or engineer. I'll tell you early if yours does.

  • Ask about the license

Westchester County has said home improvement contractors must be licensed to work in the county, so ask any contractor you're weighing to show you theirs.

How much does a new concrete driveway cost in White Plains?

It depends on the size, how much old concrete has to come out and how much base work the ground needs, so we price each job after I measure it. Slab thickness, the finish and how easily the truck can reach the spot move it too. The estimate is free and in writing.

How long before I can drive on a new concrete driveway?

You'll walk on it well before you drive on it, because concrete keeps gaining strength during curing, the wait while it hardens. I'll give you the days for your slab when we set the pour date. When we can pour turns on the permit, the weather and the prep the ground needs.

Will my new concrete crack like the old one did?

Concrete can still crack, but good prep decides where and how much. We pack a firm base, slope the slab so water runs off, and cut control joints, grooves that give the slab a planned place to crack. Rebar inside the slab helps hold it together too.

Do I need a permit for concrete work in White Plains?

It depends on the job, because the city says not all work requires a building permit. When yours does, the city wants it issued before any work starts. We handle that paperwork for you and tell you up front which office we're dealing with.

Should I spend more on the base or the finish of a concrete slab?

Put the money in the base, because nobody sees it on day one but it decides whether the slab settles. It's like a kitchen, where the prep matters more than the garnish. A plain broom finish on a solid base beats a fancy surface on raked dirt, and you can't fix the base later without tearing it out.
